RDO Equipment to acquire True North Equipment's eight Deere dealerships

RDO Equipment Co. said on July 7, 2026, that it had signed a definitive agreement to acquire True North Equipment’s John Deere agriculture dealership locations across North Dakota and Minnesota. The deal covers eight stores: Grand Forks, Grafton and Northwood in North Dakota, and Thief River Falls, Warren, Kennedy, Mahnomen and Baudette in Minnesota. Roughly 200 True North employees are expected to join RDO. Financial terms were not disclosed, and neither company said whether the deal is structured as an asset or entity purchase or how True North’s existing floor-plan financing and employment agreements will carry over. The transaction was expected to close August 3, 2026, subject to John Deere’s approval of the dealer change.

True North Equipment traces its history to 1897 in Grafton, North Dakota, and had been owned by Dan Gorder, John Oncken and Scott Gorder. RDO president Chris Cooper welcomed True North’s employees and customers into RDO in the announcement, and RDO executive vice president Daryl Shelton said the company had a responsibility to build on True North’s legacy by supporting its team and investing in technology at the acquired stores. True North co-owner John Oncken said RDO “understands this business and, importantly, understands this region,” a nod to the two companies’ shared roots as family-owned dealers in the same farm country.
