Accessibility
Dealer Row Weekly is built to be usable by as many readers as possible, including people using screen readers, keyboard-only navigation, magnification and voice control.
Standard
We target WCAG 2.2 Level AA. That covers colour contrast, keyboard access, text resizing and reflow, consistent navigation, and clear labelling of images and form controls.
What is built in
- A skip link to the main content on every page.
- Landmark regions (header, navigation, main, sidebar, footer) so assistive technology can jump between sections.
- One
<h1>per page, with headings in order beneath it. - A visible focus outline on every interactive element, at least 3px, that meets contrast against its background.
- Colour is never the only way information is conveyed; the regulation and alert flag on stories carries a text label as well as a colour.
- Text and background colours are checked against WCAG 2.2 AA contrast ratios before they ship.
- The layout reflows down to a 320px-wide viewport without horizontal scrolling or loss of content.
prefers-reduced-motionis honoured; this site uses no animation, so there is nothing to disable.- Tap and click targets are at least 44 by 44 pixels (48px on the newsletter form).
- Every AI-generated illustration carries descriptive alt text and an on-page label saying it is an illustration, not a photograph.
- Light and dark colour schemes both meet the same contrast standard.
What is not there yet
Third-party advertising, if we ever accept it, would need to meet this same standard before it runs; house ads for the publisher’s own services already do. If you use assistive technology and hit a problem anywhere on this site, we want to know.
Report a problem
